TikTok Authentication: Common Issues

TikTok Authentication with GRIN is a straightforward process, but there are a few issues you can encounter during the process. In this lesson, we'll detail each issue and explain what you can do.

Redirects the the wrong account

When you are completing the TikTok flow, the TikTok API connection can pull the login information from whichever account is already logged in to your current browser. This means that if you have 2 different TikTok accounts, whichever was most recently logged in to the browser will be the one that is used to log in to the TikTok API. In order to resolve this, you must go to TikTok and log out of that account, then attempt to connect with GRIN again. You can also use the functionality, "Switch Account", which is modeled in the video.

Cannot log in to account with any login methods:

If you cannot log in to the TikTok API window when connecting your account to GRIN due to a password or account issue, you can connect with TikTok Support and file a ticket. This is not a guarantee to gain access to the account, but can help you take the next steps to authenticate your account.

Logging in with username:

When you log in to TikTok, if you did not set up your account using an alternative sign up method (for example, using your Google Account), you should sign in using either your phone number or your email address set up with the account instead of typing the username. This will ensure they are connecting to the correct account when connecting with GRIN.

Creator toggles off permission:

For GRIN to fully connect to your TikTok account, GRIN has one permission that needs to be enabled on the account. If you disable this permission, the connection will not be able to complete and you may see an error. If this happens, you should attempt to reconnect, as shown in the video, and toggle this permission on in the Edit Permissions settings.
